  • Welcome back after some very cold and snowy days.
  • Please send a healthy snack in for 25 children. We are out of snack again!
  • Please send in recyclable items and found items for our making day on Thursday, February 7th. Students will make their own “most magnificent things.”

READER’S WORKSHOP:

This week we will read Chik Chak Shabbat. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance. We will also use the book to explore various cultures and traditions. We will continue to practice spelling patterns that make the long a sound. Students will also learn about compound words.

Sight Words: way, find, use, may, water

Vocabulary Words: wafted, tempted, tantalizing, whiff, ladled

WRITER’S WORKSHOP:

We will continue How-To writing this week. Students will independently and with partners write step-by-step directions for things they know how to do. We will use our planning sheets to make How-To booklets.

MATH:

This week we will take the mid-year assessment in math. We will practice adding two digit numbers using various tools including the number grid, base ten blocks and pictures. Students will complete an open response that asks them to explain how they used certain tools to solve problems.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE:

We will share tooth traditions. We will read Throw your Tooth on the Roof. In science we will explore light and shadows using flashlights. We will also look at how light passes through objects.
