  • Please email Ms. Bethanie if you can volunteer on February 22nd for the 2nd “My Very Own School Library.”
  • Please send in snack as soon as possible. Has your child donated snack recently? Thank you to all of the families that donate!

READER’S WORKSHOP:

This week we will read The Sandwich Swap, as we continue focusing on diverse texts this quarter. We will discuss story elements such as characters, setting, problems, and solution, as well as exploring the lesson of the book. We will connect this book about two girls sharing foods from their culture to our social studies lessons this week.

Sight Words: called, just, where, more, know

Vocabulary Words: swap, suggest, pesky, gooey, ashamed, nibbled

WRITER’S WORKSHOP:

We will finish our How-To writing this week as students work on publishing their booklets and adding a title page. Students will have the chance to practice peer editing as they perfect their booklets, as well as have the opportunity to present their work to the class.

MATH: This week we will continue working on Unit 6. This week’s lessons will focus on doubles facts, near doubles facts, and making tens using ten frames. This is a great opportunity for students to practice their mental math. We will also keep working on telling time using the hour hand, which students will practice with the clock they created in math last week.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE: In science, we will review light properties and the concepts of transparent, translucent, and opaque, as well as drawing our shadows and the shadows of other objects. In social studies, we will be talking about our differently cultures and the unique foods that come along with it. Students will take home a worksheet to assist them in an interview of a family member (parent, grandparent, aunt, sibling, etc.) asking about where the family comes from and what food is special to the family’s culture and traditions. If available, they are encouraged to bring in a recipe for this food, as we will be making a classroom recipe book. The interview and recipe should be brought in by Friday.
