  • Please send in a reproduction of a photo of a family member or pet that has passed away for our Day of the Dead altar.
  • Our trip to the farm is scheduled for tomorrow. Don’t forget to pack a bagged lunch for your child and dress warmly for the weather. We will be outside most of the day. If you are coming along to volunteer, please arrive no later than 9 am.
  • Please do not send your child to school in costume on Tuesday.
  • Consider keeping a spare set of clothes for your child in his/her book bag or at school on the closet hook. Accidents can happen on the playground…think mud and sometimes children can have accidents if they don’t make it to the washroom.

This week we will read several books with a farm/pumpkin theme in preparation for our trip to the Children’s Farm. We will read All Pigs are Beautiful, Big Chickens, Picking Apples and Pumpkins, Pumpkin Soup, and The Pumpkin Book. We will identify if the books are fiction or non-fiction and sight evidence from the text.

Sight Words: what, all, ,were, we, when, had, by, word, but, not

We will continue working on unit 2 in writing. This unit continues to focus on narrative writing with an emphasis on the writing process. Last week we planned our writing and this week we will add details to the beginning, middle and end.

This week, we will continue to work on number stories. Students will play domino top-it to practice using the part-part-total diagram. We will make up come of our own stories using the school carnival posters in the math journal. We will have exploration day where we focus on matching pairs, length and exploring counting a collection of pennies.

We will begin to wrap up our unit on Patterns in the Sky. We will learn The Earth’s Hokey Pokey and read How Many Stars in the Sky?

We will discuss family traditions and celebrations including a comparison of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. We will read our first edition of Scholastic News and learn about Veterans Day.
