WRITER’S WORKSHOP

We began How-To writing last week. Students brainstormed things they knew how to do. This week we will work on writing what materials are needed and detailed step-by-step instructions. We will put our writing in booklets at the end of the week. I am sending home a list of goals for the unit.

MATH

This week, we will complete an Open Response prompt that focuses on the right way to measure a marker. Students will have an exploration day that includes building with base 10 blocks, collecting data on a tally chart and displaying on a bar graph and drawing and naming 2-D geometric shapes.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

We will continue to discuss family traditions. We will read a Time for Kids: Money Matters. In science we will make a table fiddle and use a tuning fork to see sound vibrations in action. We will watch Magic School Bus Haunted House, which focuses on sound vibrations, high and low sounds and loud and soft sounds.
