This week in reading we will read Enemy Pie and will study vocabulary and themes from the text. The students will review the sounds for short i, b and g. We will also review the sound of s at the end of words. We will continue to learn about good habits of readers. We have discussed taking a sneak peek, making predictions and doing something at the end of a book, like rereading a favorite part or retelling the book. The students will work on stretching words, drawing hard to make ideas and using both pictures and words in writing workshop. We will learn the poem Six Little Ducks. In math we will learn about thermometers, weather, number stories and use several math tools as part of an exploration day. In science we discuss what scientists do and share what we know about things in the sky. In social studies we will discuss different types of families and the people who make them up.

SIGHT WORDS: is, you, that, it, he

VOCABULARY WORDS: enemy, recipe, squint, mumble

I will begin to assess the students’ reading levels using leveled word lists and the citywide NWEA assessment.
