  • Please send in a reproduction of a photo of a family member or pet that has passed away for our Day of the Dead altar. We will begin displaying photos this week.
  • Our trip to the Chicago Children’s Theater is scheduled next Wednesday. Don’t forget to pack a bagged lunch for your child. Thanks in advance to Dominic’s dad and John’s mom for coming along with us.
  • Please do not send your child to school in costume on Wednesday.
  • Consider keeping a spare set of clothes for your child in his/her book bag or at school on the closet hook. Accidents can happen on the playground…think mud and sometimes children can have accidents if they don’t make it to the washroom.

This week we will read Pumpkin Town and will study vocabulary and themes from the text. Students will discuss character traits, major events in the story and the author’s purpose or lesson. We will make predictions while reading and encourage students to infer what might happen beyond the text.

We will celebrate our writing on Friday at our first Writing Celebration. We will start our second unit of writing that continues in the theme of narrative texts, but asks students to dig deeper into the small moments of their stories by adding details and feelings.

SIGHT WORDS: what, all, were, we, when

This week, we will take the unit 2 assessment. We will start unit 3 and work on more number stories. I will introduce the parts and totals diagram. We will play Domino Top-It, High Roller and Rolling to 50.

We will review the phases of the moon using oreo cookies! We will discuss the four seasons and read two non-fiction books about the seasons and the sun.

We will continue with our discussion of what families need and want. We will discuss family traditions and celebrations including a comparison of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos
