  • Please send a healthy snack in for 25 children. We welcome donations of bananas, cuties, apples and grapes.
  • Would you like to come in and share your family’s holiday tradition? Please send me an email if you are interested in sharing artifacts or foods that are unique to your family during the winter season. I would like to schedule families to share at the end of the day (2:15pm?)

This week we will read The Dot. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance.

We will continue working on unit 2 in writing. This unit continues to focus on narrative writing with an emphasis on the writing process. Students will finish up their narrative stories with attention on adding feelings and close end endings. At the end of next week, students will publish and submit a piece of writing to turn in as an assessment.

This week, we will learn about measurement. Students will use strips of paper to find objects longer and shorter. We will start our math message mini-books. These books will provide a warm-up and entry point into the daily lesson. Students will also practice subtracting using the number grid. Students will measure objects with paper clips and pencils.

We will discuss family traditions. We will read a Scholastic News: Winter Animals. In science we will make a table fiddle and book fiddle and learn more about how vibrations create sound. We will make a drop chamber and practice identifying sounds of various objects.
