  • Please send a healthy snack in for 25 children. We welcome donations of bananas, cuties, apples and grapes. We are almost out of snack. Has your child donated a snack yet?
  • Would you like to come in and share your family’s holiday tradition? Please send me an email if you are interested in sharing artifacts or foods that are unique to your family during the winter season. I would like to schedule families to share at the end of the day (2pm?)
  • Please submit field trip money and form by the end of the week for our January field trip, so that we can secure seats. So far, I have one parent volunteer. I can use one more. You musy fill out a volunteer application in order to come along.

READER’S WORKSHOP/Daily 5

This week we will read Ada Twist Scientist. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance. We will read the companion book Rosie Revere Engineer later in the week.

Vocabulary Words: quivered, drifted, pungent, rattled gawk

WRITER’S WORKSHOP

We will start How-To writing this week. Students will assist in a shared writing activity to write about making trail mix. In the coming weeks students will write step by step directions for things they know how to do.

MATH

This week, we will explore data, shapes and base 10 blocks. Students will survey their classmates and create a bar graph to match their data. We will learn about doubles facts and review facts with a sum of 10, as well as +1 and +0 facts.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

We will discuss family traditions. In science we will make a table fiddle and book fiddle and learn more about how vibrations create sound. We will make a drop chamber and practice identifying sounds of various objects.
