  • Please send a healthy snack in for 24 children. We welcome donations of bananas, cuties, apples and grapes.
  • Would you like to come in and share your family’s holiday tradition? Please send me an email if you are interested in sharing artifacts or foods that are unique to your family during the winter season. I would like to schedule families to share at the end of the day (2pm?)
  • Please return the photos for our family timeline project.
  • Please send in $2 for our Gingerbread House project. 1st grade teachers will use the $ to buy the supplies needed for the project.
  • Students will be performing in the Holiday Assembly on December 21st at 9:30am. Please have your child wear dark (black or dark denim) bottoms and a white or solid top.

This week we will read Gingerbread Pirates. We will identify story elements such as characters, setting, character development and author’s purpose. We will use the book to make predictions and inferences. Students will continue to identify character traits that support a growth mind set and perseverance. We will be reading a variety of other Gingerbread stories, as we compare and contrast story elements.

Sight Words: has, any, her, two, him

We are well into How-To writing. Students brainstormed things they knew how to do. This week we will work on writing what materials are needed and detailed step-by-step instructions. We will put our writing in booklets at the end of the week.

This week, we will finish up unit 4 in math. We will review finding 10 more and 10 less and adding 3 numbers to find the sum. Students will also review ways to make an accurate measurement.

We will continue to discuss family traditions. In science we will use a tuning fork to see sound vibrations in action. We will discuss loud and soft sounds and go on a Listening Walk outside.
